Jereann King Johnson
Location: Warrenton, NC
Jereann King Johnson is an African American woman who has been quilting as far back as she can remember. She grew up in Jim Crow, Georgia using scraps from dress-making, old curtain pieces, shirts and dresses to contribute to the stories the quilt would tell.
Today, she appreciates how quilting and textile arts are being represented and flourished. As a fiber artist, she finds inspiration from all dimensions of life, love, and joy. Jereann tries to figure out ways to expand traditional quilting concepts to a framework for community philanthropy and development.
In collaboration with several NC quilters, Jereann helped to launch the African American Quilt Circle ( AAQC) in Durham, NC (1997) & The Heritage Quilters in Warrenton, NC (2001).
